The Nazar Boncuğu Talisman (its name deriving from the Arabic word for "sight" and the Turkish word for "bead") has been made and used specifically for protection against the dreaded curse of the Evil Eye since ancient times. Originating in the Mediterranean, attested to in historical documents and archeological finds dating to, at least, the 16th century B.C.E. this symbolic imagery and talisman was used by cultures throughout the Ancient world from North Africa and Southern Europe to The Levant and across Mesopotamia. The manufacture of the Blue glass beads and Talismans which have come to be known as the quintessential "Nazar" or "Evil Eye" came to be associated with the region of the world know known as the country of Turkey where these glass amulets and talismans have been hand made now for centuries.
They are traditionally made with 2 shades of blue, the darker blue representing water which symbolizes growth and prosperity and a lighter blue representing the sky which symbolizes truth and direct protection against Evil. In many cultures it's customary to give a Nazar Talisman as a gift to friends or family who have recently been blessed with a new child, home, business or job.
